Customer Rating: Summary: Broke after a few uses... Comment: My ds had this toy. The little "slide" broke after the first few uses. We were very disappointed. It seems like most of our Melissa and Dough toys have broken. I bought a whole bunch of them for my ds, but since having my dd I have switched to higher quality wooden toys because although M&D toys are less expensive, they don't hold up. :(
Customer Rating: Summary: My son loves this toy! Comment: Even though this toy says for ages 2 and up I decided to get it for my son's 1st birthday. He loves to bang things so I thought it would be something good for him. And it is! It does take a certain amount of strength to hit the balls through.
My son is 13 months old and hits the balls no problem through the holes. The ball pops out the bottom and he puts then balls back in again. I wouldn't get this toy unless your child can bang hard and have good hand eye coordination.
Customer Rating: Summary: So far, so good Comment: This is put away for Xmas, but I tested it out and it seems durable enough. I had read other reviews before buying that noted difficulty in getting the balls through the holes, but from what I've seen that won't be an issue. I think my daughter will enjoy it.
Customer Rating: Summary: An Instant "Hit"! Comment: I bought this on a whim for my grandson's 2nd birthday. After he'd tired of the toys with all the "bells and whistles", he came back this toy consistently. It's not hard at all for him to get the balls through the holes and he gets so excited when the balls roll out from underneath. Of course it's become a ramp of sorts for his matchbox cars as well. (EVERYTHING becomes an accessory for his cars!) My daughter-in-law runs a home daycare and this toy is a favorite with the under 3 crowd. The toy is quite sturdy and now has lots of little dents in the top from the hammer...which just tells me it's been well-loved! Highly recommended. I have been absolutely thrilled with every Melissa and Doug toy I've purchased.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great toy for price Comment: I bought this toy for my 16 month old boy for Christmas not realizing the age requirement. We showed him how to use it and not long after he was hitting the balls through like a pro! Granted he does use the hammer incorrectly (he uses the long part) but he still got it. I think this is a fantastic educational toy as we talk about the ball colors as well as count the balls as he hits them through. He is getting cause and effect out of it (hit the ball---it rolls down and out) as well as learning hand dexterity. This toy is under $10 so for the price and educational element I give it 5 stars.
